Steamship ‘Hibernian’

Friday 2 August 2013

To go with the carte-de-visite of the SS Denmark with its cabin plan on the back, I have acquired another—showing the SS Hibernian. Perhaps this is the start of a collection.

Albumen print reproduction of a painting, mounted on a litho printed card. The card is similar to a carte-de-visite card, but slightly larger at 107 x 64 mm.

SS Hibernian was launched in 1861 and for the next 40 years carried passengers between Britain and Canada for the Allan Line, according to the Norway-heritage website. There are other pictures of the ship, and a history of the Allan Line.

The back of the card, with part-plans of the saloon deck and lower deck.
