Design for extreme places

Tuesday 16 December 2008

This article, describing a design to support habitation in Antarctica, reminded me of the living quarters built into the 1878 lighthouse on North Reef, off Gladstone in north Queensland.

Two floor plans at different scales, from different times: On the left, Dome C Concordia Base, Antarctica, designed by Annalisa Dominoni. On the right, North Reef Lighthouse living quarters, 1878.
