Apronman, bagman, chair bodger
An old favourite among my browser bookmarks: A list of occupations, compiled and published on the web by the late John J Lacombe II. It’s a collection of (mostly archaic) occupations, each briefly explained.
Here are some examples beginning with the letter a: Acater (supplied food provisions, e.g. a ship’s chandler), Accipitrary (falconer), Alabasterer (worked with alabaster), Anaglypter (made embossed wallpaper), Ankle beater (young person who helped to drive the cattle to market), Antigropelos maker (made waterproof leggings).
[I invented one of those occupations—can you pick the ring-in?]
